The thing about deciding to stick it out with a theme is that you get to learn a lot. You are forced to study in order to tweak the theme. One of the things that I’ve always wanted to accomplish is putting a big RSS button in my header. Sure you can have the default RSS button in your side bar but it is a small teeny winy button. I wanted a big RSS button, not only because it looks nice but because they say it will increase your number of readers (subscribers I should say) And I must agree it will increase your feed subscribers. For who wouldn't wont to click that shiny orange button ? Go ahead click on mine ! I discovered a big nice juicy orange RSS button by GEEK WHAT. So I decided to use this button. Now that I have the .GIF file for the button how do I link this to my RSS and how do I place it in my header file? It's quite easy. I’m no good at HTML. In fact I just learned to manipulate HTML codes for the past few weeks because I have no choice. I was forced to study it … [Read more...]
How to display ads in your header and footer
I’ve been using the BLOGGER PRO word press theme by Design Disease for using this theme hehehehe:-)) for more than a month now and I love the theme. However I wanted to accomplish some stuff that I see are done by other bloggers on their site using the same theme as I have. In order to do this I have to tweak the theme a little bit. There are times that I get discouraged, especially when I could not find a solution to the desired effect I am looking for. I am sometimes tempted to switch themes in order to solve the problem immediately. However until now I have resisted that temptation. I figure out that it is better to face the problem than run away from it. I always tend to look at the glass half full hence I decided to stick it out with this theme and study hard in order to achieve the desired effect I want implemented on my blog. As I said I am no HTML expert, and I mostly rely on widgets to make tweaks to my blog. However since I desire to transcend to the level beyond the … [Read more...]
A new way to place a non-obtrusive ad in a blog
There are three forces that are constantly struggling to dictate how a blogger will design his blog or website. Those three are ads, rich user experience and search engine optimization. Those three are always at war with each other and it is up to the blogger to maintain a balance between them. Some blogs have too much ads that visitors to the site get turned off by pesky ads. (Ads such as Pop-ups, pop-overs and pop-unders) But what can I say, a blogger has to earn some dough for what he is doing. There’s a new way to put a non-obtrusive ad in a blog that will not in anyway affect a user’s experience. This is made possible by a Word Press plugin called MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad 1.2. (If you notice there is an ad strip at the top of this blog. This is what I am reffering to) Most leading bloggers refer to MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad as a new non-obtrusive way of displaying an advertising message. Putting ads and their corresponding links is very easy. There is even an option to put … [Read more...]
How to make your Word Press pages appear in the order you want them to
In my last post I discussed how to create a “Home” button that redirects to your post page. Since I created my home button after I created my other pages my dilemma now is that my home button appears after the other pages. In the current version of Word Press (version 2.3.1) there is no option provided with regards to setting the order of your pages the way you want it to appear. I have three pages in my website. Those are HOME, ABOUT and CONTACT. I want them to be shown in that order. However since Word press places pages in the order they were created, the order of my pages was ABOUT, CONTACT and HOME. I looked for solutions in the internet and I found out about this helpful plugin it’s called “My Page Order” You can download the plug in at http://geekyweekly.com/mypageorder After you have downloaded the plug-in follow the instructions given in the above mentioned site, and you should be able to solve your problem. … [Read more...]
How to add a “home” button that redirects to your post page in Word Press.
I do not claim to be a Word Press Expert, I am just posting my experiences here in order to help other people who are trying to find solutions or work around on things they would like to achieve on Word press that the standard Word press package does not provide. I am using a great theme by Elena G. of Design Disease. The theme is entitled "Blogging Pro." This is a very cool looking three column theme, so I decided to use it. One of the Problems I encountered with this Word Press is that it has no "Home" button. I wanted a "Home" button that redirects to my post page. By default the opening page of Word press is the post page. I would like my users to be redirected to my post page once they press "home" after they go to my other pages. One of the easier ways to create a home button is to create a new page entitled "Home", that solves the problem about creating a home button but when users click on it they are brought to another page entitled "Home" and not the post page. (The … [Read more...]
