Last December 16, 2007, it was my turn to teach Sunday school at the Career class again, so I decided to teach on the topic of Thanksgiving since it was thanksgiving Sunday at our church, the Cebu Bible Baptist Church at 55-23 Katipunan St. Labangon Cebu City, pastored by Dr. Armie Jesalva. I also preached this sermon last December 23, 2007 at the Bible Baptist Church of Mohon Talisay Pastored by Pastor Gemmo Suberano. I am so blessed by this sermon that I will be preaching this today at the Thanks giving service of Bible Baptist Church - San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, pastored by my father in law, Pastor Eddie Gerodias. For my introduction, I discussed the history of thanksgiving in the United States, and proceed with the story of the government mandate to celebrate thanksgiving. Governor William Bradford, of Plymouth Rock, proclaimed a day of Thanksgiving in 1621 to celebrate the survival of the Pilgrims in their second year in the New World, as well as an abundant harvest … [Read more...]
Jose Rizal’s greatest legacy
"Not only is Rizal the most prominent man of his own people but the greatest man the Malayan race has produced. " -Ferdinand Blumentritt, 1897. About 111 years ago in the grounds of Luneta Manila, Spanish authorities shot a man. A man who was about to change the course of Philippine history, a man we know today as Jose Rizal. Tomorrow we are once again commemorating the death anniversary of this great man. What was Jose Rizal’s greatest legacy? Why was he chosen to become our national hero ? For most people they believe that Jose Rizal was rightly chosen to become a national hero because he influenced most of our revolutionary leaders through his writings and example although other people believe that he should only be declared a hero not “The national hero.” Most people believed that Rizal’s greatest legacy is his love for his country as embodied in his writings and the actions that he took. I remember taking up a “Rizal” course in college, which was a requirement in order … [Read more...]
2007 Business year-end-review
More than two years ago, sometime in September of 2005 I saved this article from the Philippine Daily Inquirer entitled “'5% growth or worse 'Forecast of economic 'collapse' in 2 to 3 years chills businessmen” I saved the article in my computer because I wanted to know if the future projections of the business environment in our country will come to pass. In this article, according to economic analyst Peter Wallace “There is a 60% to 70% chance the Philippine economy will experience "modest growth" as it struggles with rising global oil prices and internal political uncertainties” He continues that if President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo fails to carry out tough fiscal reforms and change her leadership style, the country is "heading towards a recession" or prolonged economic slowdown. Now that two years has actually passed, businessmen can take a breather because the analysis of Peter Wallace did not seem to take place. We did not just experience modest growth, we experienced … [Read more...]
Working from home
Working from home has always been a dream of mine. I’ve always been a home buddy ever since from my youth. Working at home also gives me more time to spend with my family. In as much as I like the idea, I cannot achieve it now since I have a business to run a practice to pursue and several educational options to explore. I see myself as working at home probably about 20 years from now. Nevertheless, I do not want to get behind in the ever fast changing landscape of the internet. I’ve always believed that the internet is the main avenue of working from home. I always see the internet as a gold mine, waiting to be exploited. There are several not to mention hundreds of Filipinos already enjoying the benefits of working from home and earning from the internet. I feel left behind already. But when I compare it with the entire Filipino population, I feel I that I have an advantage. There’s always two ways of looking at a half water of glass, half empty or half full. I prefer the … [Read more...]
One of the gifts I hope I will get for Christmas
It is expected that we will receive gifts during this Christmas season. I just want to share with you one of the gifts that I hope I will receive this Christmas. For this Christmas, I am not hoping for something big like a new car. Nope not those extravagant fancy gifts. My wish is only simple, I hope that Jurists Bar review Center will be coming here to Cebu next year. I’ve always wanted that Jurists Bar review center will be placed here in Cebu at Southwestern University. Jurists Bar review Center has been one of the instruments used by God to help me pass the bar exams. The one on one coaching conducted on how I present my answers in the bar has really made a difference on how I answered in the Bar. The technique in answering has not only helped me in the bar exams. It has helped me a lot even in law practice like in writing position papers, and arguing in court. It has helped me to think logically. I love Jurists so much that I wrote “Top ten reasons why you should enroll at … [Read more...]
