Veteran boxer Gerry Penalosa faced the ultimate challenge of his lifetime as he battled Juan Manual Lopez of Puerte Rico on April 25, 2009 at Bayamon, Puerto Rico for the World Boxing Organization Super Bantamweight Championship. Take note that the words I am using is in the past tense since I did not get to write up an advance post optimizing for this fight. I knew about the fight as early as February when I made a post about Penalosa’s fight with German Meraz, but I forgot all about it. Now I hope I can still capture the traffic from people looking for the Gerry Penalosa vs. Juan Manuel Lopez youtube video and live streaming. Despite drawing inspiration from the Donaire and the Villoria fights, the very technical and intelligent fighter failed to continue the Filipino boxing warriors’ winning streak. As I am writing this post, I’ve read preliminary reports that the “Fearless” succumb to fear as he lost in the 9th round via technical knockout, with the fight being stopped by his … [Read more...]
A better alternative to Bar Matter 2012
Last Tuesday, April 21, 2009, being one of the faculty members of the Southwestern University School of Law in Cebu City Philippines, I was tasked by our Dean, Atty. Godwin Denzel Manginsay, to attend the Cebu City IBP forum on Bar Matter 2012. I already had a scheduled meeting with some clients, so I just submitted a position paper in behalf of our law school to our local IBP chapter. The following is what I think is a better alternative to Bar Matter 2012. For those of you who do not know what Bar matter 2012 is, it is discussed in the statement of facts, after which I gave out my argument on what I believe is a better alternative to Bar Matter 2012. STATEMENT OF FACTS Bar Matter 2012 mandates that every law practitioner is required to annually render a minimum of 60 hours of free legal aid service to indigent litigants. This rule is said to be effective on July 1, 2009. Practitioners who cannot comply with the said rule will be required to pay a penalty of P 4,000.00. … [Read more...]

What do you get when you put a Filipino Fighter and a Mexican slugger in the ring? A great fight! Which we will all hopefully witness this coming April 18, 2009 at the Araneta Coliseum Philippines, when Brian “The Hawaian punch” Viloria will trade fists with Ulisses “Archie” Solis in the fight dubbed as “The Fast and the Furious.” Brian “The Hawaian punch” Viloria is called such not because he drinks too much of a Hawaian punch but because he was born in Hawaii but is of Filipino ancestry. Pinoy expat in Singapore reveals Guerilla Blogger is banned there
Recently, I heard a complaint from a Pinoy expat in Singapore that he cannot access my blog there. Curious, I asked him if he tried using another browser. He said he tried other browsers in different computers but he still could not gain access to my blog. I asked him what was the error message on the browser, but he forgot what it was, so we just forgot about it. He mentioned that it could not have been the internet connection since Singapore is a highly wired City state and that Wifi hotspots abound in the place. Well, we forgot about it until some time later at dinner he told us about life as a Pinoy expat in Singapore. According to him, life in Singapore is kind of lonely. Singapore may be organized and disciplined. The buildings are well maintained and the living there is like living availing of Outer Banks rentals. It is much more of a 1st world country compared to its 3rd world Asian neighbors but life there is dull compared to our colorful life here in the … [Read more...]
