Yepeeyyyy !!!! (Using my feet to clap in midair) I just found out that I am one of the five “lucky” winners of the Cebu Pacific Blogging challenge ! I learned about the Cebu Pacific Blogging challenge last September 2008 when I attended Wordcamp Philippines. The mechanics were simple; write a post with a minimum of 200 words about places that are destinations of Cebu Pacific flights. There were other requirements as well such as linking to the Cebu Pacific website, etc. Click here to read my winning entry entitled “A brief escapade at Forest Camp and Dumaguete City”! Nothing fancy about it, its just that perhaps the judges found out that I am more handsome than the other participants (whahahahahaaa !!!) The other winning entries wrote about Bohol, Davao, General Santos, and Palawan. The prize given in the Cebu Pacific blogging challenge is a free roundtrip domestic airline ticket to any destination of our choosing. (Sana international iyong free hehehehe) I do not have … [Read more...]
Work and play at Barili, Cebu
Pastor Paul Langbid, a long time pioneering missionary in Barili Cebu went to my house one day and asked if I could handle a case for him. He said that a case for ejectment was filed against the Bible Baptist Church of Barili. I really do not want to accept out of town cases because I hate long drives. But nevertheless I reluctantly accepted the case for free because I felt that God wanted to use my being a lawyer by helping churches in need for free. I studied the complaint for ejectment and told Pastor Paul not to worry about it. I immediately found the defect in the complaint which is a common mistake that some law practitioners commit. I then filed a motion to dismiss the complaint on the grounds of lack of Jurisdiction. I set the motion for hearing on Friday, April 25, 2008. The day came, and I have to drive all the way to Barili to argue my motion to dismiss. I arrived on time only to find out that the judge was not there. (That’s why I hate practicing in this country so … [Read more...]
What will happen on 8/8/08
8/8/08 is when it all happens. It is considered by many as the luckiest day of the year. That is why a lot of events are happening on this day. The reason behind this is because the number 8 is considered to be a “lucky” number by the Chinese. It has been said that the Chinese are so fascinated with this number that you have to pay extra if you want it in your telephone number or your license plate. There are a couple of reasons why the Chinese consider 8 as a lucky number. Consider the following reasons: 1.) Some people say the number 8 (ba) in China sounds like the word for “Prosperity” (fa) 2.) Other people say that it is considered lucky because when you write the number 8 most people tend to end writing it with their pen going for the an upper stroke unlike other numbers wherein you write it with a downward stroke. 3.) The number 8 has a perfect symmetrical shape. Perfect symmetry equals perfect balance which is very much valued in Chinese culture. No offense to … [Read more...]
The candidate that Obama and McCain should really be concerned about
After a bloody Democrat nomination, Obama is slugging it out with McCain to get to be the bigwig in the White House. Eager to win in this year’s U.S election, strategists from both sides are burning the midnight oil to unlock the key that could make their respective bets hold the nation’s top post. Candidates has been resorting to all kinds of marketing efforts including giving freebies, marketing pens and other election related materials just to make sure that their name will be remembered when voters cast their vote this November 2008. But all their election strategizing would be useless if they fail to consider how to topple this one lone candidate that could make or break their White house bid attempt. Watch this video and find out who this candidate is. … [Read more...]
Latest weather forecast on typhoon Frank – soon to leave the country
After 48 hours of living back in the dark ages, I finally had the opportunity to open my emails, update my blog, check the news and do my usual stuff online. I just can’t imagine what it like is to live without the internet, not be able to take a bath for a day and not able to watch my favorite movie and T.V shows. Typhoon Frank is exiting the Visayas, but is still disturbing the northern part of the country. We had about 48 hours of no electricity as a result of typhoon Frank. Our local Electric company (VECO) had to do a lot of repairs before electricity was restored. But the fate I suffered could have been worse. I’m glad it was only limited to our lack of electricity. Sometimes I wish that I lived in a nice cool country where there are no storms (Unfortunately there is snow and I have engage in a back breaking routine to shovel the snow and use tire chains in my car) My heart goes out to our kababayans who has suffered much because of the devastation brought about by typhoon … [Read more...]
