Last December 2009, my uncle told us that a search in the internet revealed that a company is coming up with a concept car and has decided to name the car the “Maceren MP-4” Naturally we were intrigued that a car would bear the family’s surname. Of course it was kind of cool to know that a car bears your surname (My middle name in my case), not to mention that it is a cool concept sports car! He showed us a website featuring a really cool looking car that is worthy to be compared to other hot cars like a Ferrari parts, Mercedez or Lamborghini. When we saw the website we read that the car was called the “Maceren Mp-4” because the blog writer who I believe spoke Spanish wrote it as “El nuevo Maceren MP4- 12C” (Translated as “The New Maceren MP-4”) Well, I never really gave it much thought until today. I never had a thing for cars. I am contented with my Suzuki Alto. Anyway, I searched the internet for the “Maceren MP-4” but the search engines never revealed what I was looking … [Read more...]
Trying out the latest Boracay hotels for our 8th wedding anniversary
To celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary, my wife and I together with our son and two household helps Londer and Lalay spent 4 days and 3 nights in the beautiful island of Boracay. It is not our first time to visit this lovely place. This is the third time that my wife has visited here, while it is my second time. For both my household helps and my son, this is their first time. The first time I was here was in 2007. Right after taking my lawyer’s oath, my wife and I went here to celebrate. My parents have never been to this place so when they heard that we were going, the decided to join us. However since they booked their tickets late, we flew in several hours earlier. What’s interesting about this visit is that we also tried the latest hotel here which is the Crown Regency located in Station 3. We used our free coupons (courtesy of Club Ultima) for our stay here. Crown Regency is putting up several Boracay hotels here. I’ve heard that they are planning to put one in … [Read more...]
Our One Visayas experience
Last March 2009, after our “Disappointing weekend at Plantation Bay Cebu” we dropped by at the Cebu International convention Center as it is the last day of the “One Visayas” expo. This mother of all festivals is a brainchild of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia who also initiated a “cultural renaissance” in Cebu province through her program called “One Cebu.” Cebu Daily news describes it as “the most serious attempt to bring together the provinces of the three Central Philippine regions to showcase the best of their culture and art forms.” This year’s theme is “One People, One Vision.” Representatives from 20 provinces from the three Visayan regions came under one roof and showcased the best of what the Visayan culture has to offer. It is about time that something like this is initiated. The Visayan people should realize that the more we discover that we have something in common, the more we will be more united as a people. I did some research on the history of the Visayans. … [Read more...]
Kung Hei Fat Choi or Kung Hei huat chai ?
Today, January 25, 2009 is considered as “New Year’s eve” (just much like our December 31) for our Chinese brothers and sisters. Tomorrow, Monday January 26, 2009 marks the New Year for 2009 for the Chinese. Unlike our Gregorian Calendar which is based on the position of the earth on its revolution around the sun, the Chinese follows the “Lunar calendar” which is based on the cycles of the moon phase. However strictly speaking, the Chinese do not follow the Lunar calendar but follow what is known as a “Lunisolar” calendar. In a Lunisolar calendar, months are based on the Lunar cycle, however intercalary months are added in order that the lunar calendar might somewhat be in sync with the solar based calendars. Lunisolar calendars is what is being followed by the Chinese, Hebrew and Hindus. Only the “Hijri” calendar which is used by the Muslims follow a purely lunar year. Anyway, in celebration of the Chinese New year, I sent an SMS message to some of my Chinese friends with the … [Read more...]
Attack of the Giant Siopao
Aside from being known as “Abalos country” and the Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City in Metro Manila would soon have another attraction that will forever be linked to it’s name – GIANT SIOPAO. For those of you who do not know what a siopao is, a siopao is a Chinese steamed bread buns filled with pork, chicken, egg, vegetables and a sweet filling. Siopao is best served with ketchup or the maker’s own unique siopao sauce. The maker of this Giant siopao is PVL Food House. They sell this humongous, giant, siopao for P 120.00. Purportedly the largest in the Philippines, this giant siopao is about 4 times bigger than the ordinary Siopao and weighs about a kilo. The average male eater can consume this giant siopao within 15 minutes as timed on Technomarine watches :-) I still have not tasted this giant Siopao, perhaps when I go to Manila someday I will be able to drop by Mandaluyong and try out this insanely huge Siopao. I learned about this giant siopao through Inquirer.net video. … [Read more...]
