Sometime in September of 2010, Christian apologist, Bill Pratt wrote an article entitled "Is God subject to logic." Bill Pratt has a Masters Degree in Christian Apologetics from Southern Evangelical Seminary. He speak about apologetics at Cornerstone Baptist Church, in Greensboro, North Carolina, U.S.A and blogs about Apologetics at "Tough Question answered." (Where he tackles heavy apologetical issues) This article is an evaluation and an analysis of the above mentioned article he has written. As a student of Apologetics wherein logic is considered one of the things that we "major" on, I will attempt here to dissect his arguments and try to analyse from a logical standpoint if he made a good argument with regards to his position on the issue. In trying to answer the question, “Is God subject to Logic ?,†the author presents several arguments and conclusions. I will try to break down each and analyze how the author builds his arguments to reach his final conclusion and how … [Read more...]
“Son of God” or “son of the gods” ? What is the proper translation of Daniel 3:25 ?
The "King James Only vs. Modern translations issue" has always been close to my heart considering that I came out of the King James Only movement. After careful study of the facts and finding out that the position of the movement is not only filled with inconsistencies half truths and even out right lies, I decided I had enough. Since then I have made it some sort of a personal crusade not only study the issue in depth but to answer questions related to the issue in order that other believers might also be enlightened. One of the favourite accusations that the KJV Only movement throws out to those who use modern translations are the alleged omissions, additions, revisions that modern translations commit when compared to the King James Version. Among the most favourite Bible verse they use is Daniel 3:25. The following is an actual question asked of me in Facebook in relation to Daniel 3:25: Your favorite version is NASB. So if that’s your favorite,do you believe NASB’s phrase … [Read more...]
The Biblical view on the death penalty and a historical survey on the position of the Roman Catholic Church on the said issue
The issue on the death penalty is trending nowadays. Thanks to the recently approved extremely “watered down” version of the death penalty bill and Philippine President Duterte’s strong stance on death penalty. Before we go to the topic let me clarify that this blog post is what exactly it is as stated in the title and the discussions here should be limited within the confines of the title as stated. If you don’t believe in the Bible or wish to argue for or against the death penalty from a sociological, historical anthropological or any other perspective outside the confines of the title of this topic or if you would like to address the issues as to whether the death penalty is effective in deterring crime based on studies etc., I would gladly address your concerns in another blog post. For now this addresses the issue from the perspective of what the Bible says about the death penalty and a historical survey on the position of the Roman Catholic on the matter. When religion … [Read more...]
His Plans, His Purpose, His Power!
Next to John 3:16, having been printed on millions of apparel, coffee mugs and almost anything, the next most popular verse would probably be Philippians 4:13. Helping to fuel the popularity of the verse are Christian athletes such as Evander Hollyfield who had the verse written in his boxing robe, popular football quarterback Tim Tebow who had the verse written in the black grease beneath his eyes, NBA super star and Stephen Curry who had the verse printed on his own brand of shoes. Notorious MMA fighter Jon Jones even has the verse tattooed in his chest. Unfortunately the verse is one of the misinterpreted, misused and misunderstood verse in the Bible. A lot of Christians use it as some kind of mystical incantation. And just like Green Lantern’s ring, a lot of Christians treat this passage like a Talisman, reciting it like some sort of magic formula whenever they need power to conquer something that is challenging. In this modern day seeker sensitive Christian era, every … [Read more...]
A diluted Gospel ?
One of the biggest problem of evangelical Christianity today is that there is that the gospel presentation is being diluted. There’s little or no presentation of repentance of sin and surrendering your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. A lot of those who present the Gospel ask people to make Jesus their Savior, but do not emphasize that becoming a Christian is a complete and total surrender of their lives to Jesus Christ. Hence we see a lot of alleged conversion when the truth of the matter is a lot of people never really understand that being a Christian is a life commitment for Jesus Christ. Jesus himself said this that if anybody wants to become his disciple he is to deny himself, take up his cross and follow him. He asked the rich young ruler who was asking him how to obtain eternal life to acknowledge his sinfulness and follow him (Luke 18:18 to 23). Everywhere you read in the Gospels, Jesus preached a Gospel of commitment, a Gospel of complete surrender to his will. … [Read more...]
