SEC Commissioner Jesus Martinez has been in the hot seat recently in the ongoing Philippine Senate inquiry on the state of the pre-need industry in the Philippines, in particular the latest pre-need fiasco which is of course deals with the infamous Celso Delos Angeles and his cash strapped Legacy group of companies. According to news reports, Celso Delos Angeles’ Legacy group allegedly gave cash and bought a million peso house for SEC Commissioner Jesus Martinez. This scandal has rocked the Securities and Exchange Commission and has stirred up public outrage against the regulatory body for its alleged inefficiency and corruption. The "professional heckler" in his blog wrote that the Securities and Exchange Commission (S.E.C) should have been renamed as “Security in Exchange for Commission.” Lawyer blogger, the "Warrior lawyer" wrote “Is this why they’re called commissioners? Because they get a piece of the action every time?” Amidst all of this chaos, I cannot help but think … [Read more...]
Too much politics killed Andres Bonifacio
Yesterday, November 30 we celebrated the birthday of one of our Philippine heroes, Andres Bonifacio. However the holiday was moved to today, December 1 by virtue of the President’s “Holiday economics.” Andres Bonifacio is dubbed as the "Father of the Philippine Revolution." He was one of the main leaders in the Filipino revolution against Spanish rule. Andres Bonifacio founded the Katipunan, an organization whose purposes were to defend the poor and the oppressed, promote good morals and to liberate the Philippines from Spanish rule through taking up arms. Usually, a public holiday is declared to celebrate the death of a hero. However in the case of Andres Bonifacio, it his birth that is being declared a public holiday and not his death. The reason for such is because unlike other heroes who died in the hands of the enemy, Andres Bonifacio died in the hands of his fellow country men. Some historians contend that the death of Andres Bonifacio was a result of the classic “rich … [Read more...]
The answer to the poverty problem
I found out about Blog Action Day just today while I was blog hopping. I find the concept unique, creative and something that’s worth joining. Earning income is not my only passion for blogging. I also want to contribute to the good of society through my blogging and joining Blog Action Day is just one of those avenues wherein I can somehow contribute back to society. According to their blogsite Blog Action Day is “an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day.” Their aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion. Again, I say that this is a really cool idea. (But the name is not so cool because “Blog Action Day” spells B.A.D and we don’t want to be BAD, we want to be GOOD hehehehe) This year’s Blog Action Day topic is “Poverty.” No specific topic in poverty is given. I would surmise that most articles would be about a solution to the "poverty problem.”. Last year (2007) it … [Read more...]
Sarah Palin speech video shows how she can bring the Mccain campaign
Watching the Sarah Palin speech video in the Republican National Convention made me believe that John McCain’s decision in picking making her as vice Presidential candidate is probably the best move he made this election. I’ve watch John McCain give a speech and I’ve watched Obama give one. Sad to say in my own personal opinion, John McCain’s speech is so boring that I think he would fall asleep if he listened to his own speech. It's better that John McCain give out promotional pens so voters will remember him rather than giving a speech. It’s not that I don’t like Republicans; in fact if I were an American citizen, I would choose to be a Republican, because I support the Republican’s stand on most issues. Enter Sarah Palin, young, energetic and unexposed in the national level yet with a great track record. The Sarah Palin speech video shows how she has “brought life” to the John McCain campaign.. In the Sarah Palin speech video you might be able to conclude that she may not be … [Read more...]
