Finally, the most anticipated fight of the year is here! Our very own Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao battles Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton in the historic pound for pound boxing match dubbed as “Battle of the East and West” that will take place on May 3, 2009 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, U.S.A Manny Pacquiao is undoubtedly the Philippines’ most watched and most prized fighter. His fame is known all over the world, I’m pretty sure the entire country will literally stand still in time this coming Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines) as people stay at home, flock to the movies or anywhere where Pay per view or even a delayed telecast is available. Others will utilize technology and search for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton youtube video and live streaming. Of course I am hoping that Manny Pacquiao will win. Pacquiao has a sterling 48-3-2 record with 36 knockouts. Pacquiao used to be simultaneous holder of several world titles. (Unfortunately some boxing councils asked him to give … [Read more...]
Another suggestion on Mandatory Legal Services (MLAS) otherwise known as Bar matter 2012
Five days ago, I posted the article which I submitted to the IBP Cebu City chapter entitled "A better alternative to Bar Matter 2012." This concerns the Mandatory Legal Service imposed upon lawyers by the Philippine Supreme Court. I honestly don't know what the position of the other lawyers are on this since I was not able to attend the IBP forum regarding this matter. Today, when I opened my email, I read a forwarded message from one of my lawyer friends. The article is also about the Mandatory Legal service (MLAS). I agree with the author's position on MLAS, that is why I offered to help circulate this article by posting it in my blog. I am so glad to know what other lawyers think about Bar matter 2012. So without further adieu here is the opinion of another lawyer with regards to the MLAS or commonly known as Bar Matter 2012. WHY I AM AGAINST MLAS And What I Propose in Its Place By: Atty. May S. Aguilar WITH ALL DUE RESPECT. I am in trial practice not for the … [Read more...]
Gerry Penalosa vs. Juan Manuel Lopez youtube video and live streaming
Veteran boxer Gerry Penalosa faced the ultimate challenge of his lifetime as he battled Juan Manual Lopez of Puerte Rico on April 25, 2009 at Bayamon, Puerto Rico for the World Boxing Organization Super Bantamweight Championship. Take note that the words I am using is in the past tense since I did not get to write up an advance post optimizing for this fight. I knew about the fight as early as February when I made a post about Penalosa’s fight with German Meraz, but I forgot all about it. Now I hope I can still capture the traffic from people looking for the Gerry Penalosa vs. Juan Manuel Lopez youtube video and live streaming. Despite drawing inspiration from the Donaire and the Villoria fights, the very technical and intelligent fighter failed to continue the Filipino boxing warriors’ winning streak. As I am writing this post, I’ve read preliminary reports that the “Fearless” succumb to fear as he lost in the 9th round via technical knockout, with the fight being stopped by his … [Read more...]
A better alternative to Bar Matter 2012
Last Tuesday, April 21, 2009, being one of the faculty members of the Southwestern University School of Law in Cebu City Philippines, I was tasked by our Dean, Atty. Godwin Denzel Manginsay, to attend the Cebu City IBP forum on Bar Matter 2012. I already had a scheduled meeting with some clients, so I just submitted a position paper in behalf of our law school to our local IBP chapter. The following is what I think is a better alternative to Bar Matter 2012. For those of you who do not know what Bar matter 2012 is, it is discussed in the statement of facts, after which I gave out my argument on what I believe is a better alternative to Bar Matter 2012. STATEMENT OF FACTS Bar Matter 2012 mandates that every law practitioner is required to annually render a minimum of 60 hours of free legal aid service to indigent litigants. This rule is said to be effective on July 1, 2009. Practitioners who cannot comply with the said rule will be required to pay a penalty of P 4,000.00. … [Read more...]
Brian Viloria vs. Ulisses Solis youtube video and live streaming
What do you get when you put a Filipino Fighter and a Mexican slugger in the ring? A great fight! Which we will all hopefully witness this coming April 18, 2009 at the Araneta Coliseum Philippines, when Brian “The Hawaian punch” Viloria will trade fists with Ulisses “Archie” Solis in the fight dubbed as “The Fast and the Furious.” Brian “The Hawaian punch” Viloria is called such not because he drinks too much of a Hawaian punch but because he was born in Hawaii but is of Filipino ancestry. When hit by Viloria’s fists, opponents will be dazed as if they are having too much of a Hawaiian punch. (The drink) hehehehe. This Fil-Am fighter has an impressive 24-2-0 record with 14 knock outs. Trading fists with Viloria is the current IBF light-flyweight champion, Ulisses Solis with a solid 28-1-2 record with 20 knock outs. This Mexican knockout artists has defended his title eight times since holding it last 2008. It remains to be seen on whether or not Ulisses Solis will get dazed … [Read more...]
