Last March 2009, after our “Disappointing weekend at Plantation Bay Cebu” we dropped by at the Cebu International convention Center as it is the last day of the “One Visayas” expo. This mother of all festivals is a brainchild of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia who also initiated a “cultural renaissance” in Cebu province through her program called “One Cebu.” Cebu Daily news describes it as “the most serious attempt to bring together the provinces of the three Central Philippine regions to showcase the best of their culture and art forms.” This year’s theme is “One People, One Vision.” Representatives from 20 provinces from the three Visayan regions came under one roof and showcased the best of what the Visayan culture has to offer. It is about time that something like this is initiated. The Visayan people should realize that the more we discover that we have something in common, the more we will be more united as a people. I did some research on the history of the Visayans. … [Read more...]
AJ Banal vs. Mbwana Matumla youtube video and live streaming
One of Cebu’s most promising boxer, AJ “Bazooka” Banal will once again either wow or stun his home crowd this coming Saturday as he battles the “African Golden boy” Mbwana Matumla of Tanzania Africa at the Cebu Coliseum in the fight dubbed as “Tuloy Ang Pagsubok” (Translated as - The Challenge Continues) If you remember last July 2008 AJ Banal’s Bazooka went Kaplang! instead of KaBOOM! when he was KOd in the 10th round by Rafael “Little Bull” Concepcion in the fight dubbed as “The holy fight.” (Laban na banal) AJ’s defeat became very unholy when the little Bull silenced the crowd at the Cebu Coliseum as Bazooka’s cannon failed to deliver the necessary fire power. Well I hope this won’t happen again. I hope this time AJ’s Bazooka will send the Golden Boy of Africa back to his Safari home land. Ranked No. 6 by the IBF, No. 9 by the WBA and considered as “heir” to Manny Pacquiao’s throne, AJ’s near perfect record of 18-1-1 with 15 KOs makes him the top bet for this fight. On the … [Read more...]
The Ramon Magsaysay Credo
“He who has less in life should have more in law” This one of the most popular phrase that the great president, Ramon Magsaysay, the champion of the masses is best remembered for. Law students are quite familiar with the statement as this has often been used in law school most especially in the subjects of Political law and Labor law. More often the phrase is used in Labor law especially in decided cases wherein the Supreme Court favors the argument of laborers. I have decided to write about this because one of my readers dropped me a comment and asked exactly in what speech did “Ramy” as what he called him, used that phrase. He was asking this question in connection to the post I wrote entitled “Giving more of the law to those who have less in life.” Well, the phrase “ . .. He who has less in life should have more in law” is taken from what we know as the “Ramon Magsaysay Credo.” The Ramon Masaysay Credo is a ten point credo that the great President tried to live by when he … [Read more...]
How to solve the “KDE unable to start is out of diskspace” problem in the Asus eepc
Last year I bought an Asus eepc 4G. I was so impressed with the little thing that I wrote a blog post about it entitled “My Asus EeePC experience.” I only use the Asus Eepc when I am out of town. When I am within the Cebu City, my wife is the one that usually uses it as she brings it to work. The other day she reported to me that she could no longer get into the desktop. I asked her what the problem was and she said it has something to do with it being “out of disk space.” I expected the “out of disk space” problem with the Asus eepc 4G, considering that it has only 4 GB of disk space. But I did not expect that this would cause a problem in getting into the desktop. Curious, I got the computer and checked the problem out. Upon entering the desktop the screen shows the following error: “'The following installation problem was detected while trying to start KDE: $HOME directory (/home/user) is out of disk space. KDE is unable to start. [OK]' Clicking [OK] brings up a further … [Read more...]
Want to loose weight? Sleep well
Traditional weight loss theories tell us that we either do something positive or negative in order to loose weight. To do something positive could probably mean exercising, having a more active lifestyle, drinking some kind of weight loose pill or getting surgery. Doing something negative may involve calorie counting, limiting food intake, going into a diet etc. etc. But what about doing something that is neither positive nor negative? What about doing nothing at all? Enter a new paradigm in weight loss, loosing weight by sleeping well. Study shows that sleep deprived individuals are more likely to be obese. I am neither a medical doctor nor a scientist, and it is best to first consult your doctor about this. However doing some online research, I found that such new thinking has a scientific basis. In order to understand this more simply let me introduce to you two hormones in our bodies known as Leptin and Ghrelin. Leptin regulates the appetite, metabolism and calorie … [Read more...]
