The Philippines is one of the hottest destination for business process outsourcing. It just places a little notch lower than the India. A lot of call centers and other business process outsourcing ventures have cropped up all over the country. More than half of the available jobs advertised in the newspapers are business process outsourcing jobs ranging from medical transcription to customer and technical support and legal services among others. Instead of being stagnant because of the dwindling dollar, our export sector has exhibited growth due to business brought about by business process outsourcing. My brother who is our company’s vice president for finance wanted us to join the bandwagon. He was interested in involving our business in the business process outsourcing industry specifically in the call center operations. I expressed my reluctance that we do so since this is totally unrelated to our existing line of business although I acknowledge that business process … [Read more...]
Learn lessons from selaplana.com
Years ago I was totally convinced that the internet is a gold mine waiting to be exploited. I did some research until I focused on a certain online money making venture, Blogging. When I began blogging, late November 2007, I was looking for online models both here and abroad. I was looking for bloggers whose footsteps I could follow. I was looking for bloggers who had been successful in what they are doing. I wanted to know how they did it. I came across Sustines E. Laplana’s site through a Sun Star article authored by Janet Toral. I was actually amazed by his blogging success story. Laplana blogs directly from Maasin, Southern Leyete. The Sun Star article said that Laplana’s site proves that “you don’t have to be in Manila or in a big city to succeed at blogging.” I totally agree. There are those from who think that you have to be “Manila Boys” or City boys to succeed at something. This kind of mentality is pervasive even among us from the provinces. But I am glad somebody like … [Read more...]
Arguing the validity of the expressing freedom of religion in the workplace
Note: I help my sister write this article when I was still in law school. This was presented in the category for oral argument in the A.C.E international student's convention (Accelerated Christian Education) This piece won 10th place out of several countries taking part in the contest. Ladies and Gentleman, Honorable members of this committee I am appealing in behalf of my client, Mr. Robert Smith, respectfully praying that the directive of the human resources director be reversed based on the following grounds: First, Religious freedom is guaranteed by our constitution. It is explicitly provided for in the 1st amendment that “no law shall be passed respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Religious freedom involves the freedom to believe and the freedom to act on one’s belief. Further the 1st amendment provides that no law shall be passed abridging the freedom of speech. Religious speech must be treated the same as any other speech. … [Read more...]
Buy term invest the difference?
Some of us has probably heard of the saying “Buy term, invest the difference” when it comes to buying insurance and considering investments. But do we really understand what this means? And if we do understand what this means, why do financial planners recommend that you buy term and invest the difference while your insurance agent is pushing you to buy their recommended product instead. Most whole life insurance products in the market today are considered rip offs. In fact, these kinds of products have already been considered obsolete in the United States. (Term insurance refers to insurance with life coverage only, whole life on the other hand refers to term policy with an investment component. These kinds of products are usually presented as helping you “force” to save for retirement. The problem with the investment part is that they do not usually give a good rate of return) Sadly insurance agents are still selling products like these in the Philippines. What is more sad is that … [Read more...]
How to get rid of the “TTMS NAA NA DIRE! DONT WORRY IM NOT A CORRUPT LIKE YOU!!” virus
There are just some people that have nothing to do in life than to make the lives of other people miserable. To the author of this virus, why don’t you get a life and try blogging instead? You might be able to make some money instead of spreading useless viruses? Anyway, I’m just venting out my anger. My shrink tells me it’s unhealthy to hold grudges against people. Hehehehehehe Last week my computer got infected by a virus. There is really no formal name for the virus since most of the anti-virus makers up to know have still not identified it. In fact when you search for a “remover” for this virus in google you cannot find any. (Correct me if I am wrong) There are only instructions on how to remove it and only a few websites are giving such instructions. In fact my onboard antivirus has still not identified it until now. The reason for this is because this virus is local. Yep, you got right, made in the Philippines. Since all of the big anti-virus makers are outside the country, … [Read more...]
