Welcome polymaths !

Ever get the feeling that you seem to don't know what to do with your life because there are just so many things that you want to do ? I know, I've been there, so welcome to the club.

My name is Zigfred Diaz and I am a polymath. After more than 6 years of bloging about almost anything under the sun and having sort of a "blogging identity crisis." I've finally embraced who I am and decided to turn my main blog into some sort of guide for people with so much interest. Feel free to poke around.

December 7, 2007 by Zigfred Diaz 1 Comment

About the early part of the last quarter of this year, FORBES ASIA released their list of the Top 40 Richest people in the Philippines. We are given a glimpse as to who holds about 80 to 90 % of our nation’s wealth. However in comparison to the entire region, the Filipino richest are actually the “poorest” among its Southeast Asian neighbors. Compared to others in the same region, the Riches Filipino combined together had the smallest net worth, ($16 billion) the fewest number of billionaires (only three) and the lowest minimum net worth ($25 million) Nevertheless these Filipinos are the envy of their countrymen. Others look up to them as their inspiration. It is interesting to note that only a handful of them have inherited their wealth. Most of them started from the bottom and worked their way up until they became what they are today. Take note all of them are entrepreneurs and none made it to the top 10 list by just remaining an employee. Inspire to be an entrepreneur, take … [Read more...]

Recommended books for the Philippine bar exams review

December 5, 2007 by Zigfred Diaz 35 Comments

I've received several requests asking me what law books I used in reviewing for the Philippine bar exams. Now that I have a blog I don't have to enumerate them one by one to every single person that ask me that question. All I have to do is give them the url of this site and tell them to check this post. Basically, there are two sets of books that I will be giving. The first set are the ones that are to be used during the 6 months review. (From April to August) while the next set should be used during the "pre-week" review. (1st week of August and within September) Take note that these are the books I used. I am not saying that any of these books are more superior than others. For those who want to follow my lead then go ahead. But if you find a material that suites you best than use that instead. Books are like food, one man's meat may be another man's poison. There are some books that I like which you may not like. You should know how to select a material that suites you … [Read more...]

How to invest in the Philippine Stock Market – Part 1

December 4, 2007 by Zigfred Diaz 3 Comments

Part 1 - Basic principles that each prospective investors should understand A lot of people have asked me on whether they should invest in the Philippine stock market. Most of those who asked also wanted to know how to start doing it. I do not know if they are really serious about investing or if they are merely curious about it since it has been given emphasis lately considering its very positive performance. Investing in the Philippine stock market is not for the faint hearted. As an investor you must have expectations as to how much you are going to earn for a certain vehicle of investment. Such is expectation is measured in terms of how much your money will grow at a certain period of time. (Most usually this is measured in interest per annum) Because the Philippine Stock market is in its all time high for several months now, people think that they should join the band wagon. They do not even understand the basic principles involved nor do they understand how the stock market … [Read more...]

Why you should use the Opera browser

December 3, 2007 by Zigfred Diaz 5 Comments

For those of you still using Internet Explorer to surf the web you should know that Internet Explorer is not the only internet browser on earth. The fact that most people use internet explorer does not make it the most fast, secure or the best browser available today. It just so happens that because Microsoft dominates the Operating system battle with its Windows Operating system that Internet Explorer has become quite popular. The latest statistics reveal that more than 60 % of the world uses Internet Explorer as its browser. Most people would agree that Bill Gates’ “evil empire” profits too much from selling its wares, but sadly they continue to use Microsoft software without making an effort to shift to Open Source or other cheaper software. However this is not a Bill Gates bashing post and I do not hate Bill Gates nor do I hate Microsoft. There are lots of other browsers out there, Wikipedia has listed more than 30 browsers in the article“comparison of web browsers” Most experts … [Read more...]
