Willie Revillame has once again created a controversy. I am not surprised by this since his showbiz career has been very controversial. This time the controversy is focused on Willie Revillame reaction to Cory Aquino’s burial.
As we all know Cory Aquino, loved by millions of Filipinos was buried last August 5, 2009. While the funeral procession was going on, ABS-CBN showed the burial procession side be side with the popular variety show WOWOWEE.
The format of WOWOWEE is all about having fun. The show is filled with laughter, games and dancing.
So imagine this, while the people in the ABS-CBN studio was having fun, shouting, giggling and dancing, the people outside the studio several kilometers away were grieving and crying in the funeral procession of one of our most loved former leader. Worst the funeral procession was shown side by side with WOWOWEE. Talk about that being oxymoronic!
In response the show’s host Willie Revillame, reacted to this situation. Here is his statement in Tagalog:
“Sandali, meron akong ano . . sa atong ano . . . hindi naman sa ano. . . kasi hindi siguro magandang tingnan pinipakita nino iyong . . . nag sasaya kami tapos pinakita nyo iyong. . . I don’t think na dapat ipakita iyan management. Eh mahihrapan akong magsalita dito nagpapasaya ako nakikita ko iyong ano ni Tita Cory. Sana pakitanggal naman muna ‘yan sa ating traffic. Kasi kung ganyan pakita nalang natin ‘yan kasi nagsasaya kami dito tapos masakit sa akin yan. Nagsasalita ako ditto . . . yan Pls, sana maintindhan niyo, nagsasaya kami dito papakita niyo sa amin yun. Diba? Hindi tama eh okay?”“Hay nako. Pangit. Hindi maganda ho sa atin nagsasalita pinapakita yung kabaong ni Tita Cory. Diba? Paano kami magkakapagsaya nahihirapan kami? I’m sorry ho ah pero ako totoo ako eh. ‘Wag niyo akong papagalitan…Pagkatapos ng show pakita niyo ‘yung gusto niyong ipalabas. Kasi itong Wowowee gusto ko at alam din ni Tita Cory ‘yan kasi napasaya din siya ng show na ito na laging masaya dito. Okay?”
I have tried to translate Willie Revillame reaction to Cory Aquino’s burial in English for the benefit of everybody. This is not a literal word for word but I have taken into account what he really meant by what he said. More or less this is what he said:
“Wait first, I have something to say, I don’t think it is appropriate to show that (referring to Cory Aquino’s burial) we are having fun here and then you show that. I don’t think management should show that. (side by side with the show) I am having a difficult time trying to let the people have fun and then I see the burial burial procession of Tita Cory. I hope that traffic will remove that. If we really want to show the burial procession then let’s just shows the burial procession. . . . Seeing that is really painful for me.There, (When the inserted frame of the burial procession was removed) Please, I hope you understand me. We are having fun here and then the burial is shown to us. I don’t think its right ok?Oh my goodness, It’s not a very nice that I am speaking here about being happy and having fun and then we are showing the casket of Tita Cory. How are we supposed to have fun? I am sorry but I am just telling the
truth. I want to be truthful I hope you won’t reprimand me. After the show, you can show that if you want to show that. Because in Wowowee (Referring to his show) I know and Tita Cory knows that the show is all about fun, as she used to watch the show and she knows the show is all about being happy and fun. Ok ?”
Honesty speaking I don’t see anything wrong with what he said. In fact he was right and should even be commended. Whoever was in charge of production or T.V traffic at ABS-CBN at that time really had a bad taste. I’m sure this was an honest mistake but it was really the fault of production or traffic not Willie Revillame.
People all over the blogsphere who have a negative view of Willie Revillame reaction to Cory Aquino’s burial seem to have missed the point. They see Willie Revillame as arrogant and insensitive. I don’t think he was. I think these people have over reacted. In fact I see of Willie Revillame reaction to Cory Aquino’s burial as the most sensitive thing that a Cory Aquino fan could ever do for the late President. So my response to these people is try read between the lines. Don’t focus on the “letter of the words” being spoken by Willie Revillame but rather focus on the intention or the “spirit” of what is being said.
Sure, Willie Revillame should have waited for the commercial and then told production or traffic what he felt about it without making a fuss in national t.v. Another thing is that he could have chosen his words carefully and in order that he will not be misinterpreted.
But there are several reasons why he could not have done any of the above and why he blurted out like that in national television. First, It was probably too painful for him that he couldn’t wait for the next commercial break to come in. Secondly, he just said what he felt at the time and failed to see the possible consequence of what he and that it will be misinterpreted by people. I’m sure he could have had chosen his words carefully, but this was an out of the blue reaction and not a pre-arranged speech.
While some people may condemn Willie Revillame reaction to Cory Aquino’s burial, I don’t. In fact I commend him for what he said although I would prefer that he should have not said it in national television or that he choose his words carefully. Well somebody should at least be brave enough to rebuke the ABS-CBN management, production, traffic or whosoever is responsible for such bad taste in television production or lapse in judgment.
Anyway to all those that are mad at Willie for blurting out like that, don’t be mad as you might get lots of acne and will be hassled to get acne treatments hehehehee. 🙂 Ang galit pangit !

I do believe Willie did the right gesture during the Wowowee episode without insulting the Aquino family during tita Cory’s burial. People are barking at the wrong tree. Shouldn’t it be the management of ABS CBN or production team of the show (director, staff, etc.) that should be held liable for what has transpired? It was beyond Willie’s control; his was just a reaction to an awkward situation.
Siguro kung hindi si Willie Revillame yun nag comment or nagsabi ng ganun, most people might see it in a different way… Problem is Willie Revillame kasi yun eh… Eversince he is identified as arrogant and a lot of people really hated him for that medyo pinapalagpas lang nila at di lang pinapatulan… But when this issue about Cory’s funeral came out, dun na siguro binuhos ng tao ang galit sa kanya.. I myself understand the point of his explanation but the problem is… Willy Revillame is the one talking.. where a lot of people don’t see his sincerity because it’s not actually there.. Instead they see his arrogance.

I agree what Willie is trying to convey here, he just didn’t know how to deliver the message properly.
BUT…
Willie is an arrogant pig by nature, we’ve seen it all before this had happened. Im from the states and regularly watch wowowee and it just disgust me everytime he do this to his staff and guests.
What he just showed here is not being fearless as what he is trying to claim, its about being arrogant and disrespectful to the ABSCBN management and staff as a whole, and even try to challenge them, and he shouldn’t blame them in front of the camera, but instead …
“he should have apologize to the televiewers in behalf of the wowowee staff and ABSCBN management that they shouldn’t have shown the clips of cory’s cortege while they are having fun, and didn’t mean disrespect.”
But instead, he rediculed and lambasted the staff and the management in front of the camera as he was not part of the family. TOTAL DISRESPECT
His head has grown so big that he thinks he owns this company and acting like GOD.
This is NOT about his comment about Cory’s Cortege, its about that “he should behave himself, especially on national television.”

a lot of people did not get the message what willie meant, but the truth is if you really is a real sensitive person you will understand where he oomes from. no insult there. tama lang hindi talaga maganda yong saya at lungkot pinagsabay may time para diyan. who ever decided to do it yon ang sisihin ninyo di si willie. ano ba happy ba kayong malugmok si willie after all these years & hard work to come up with a good show like wowowee!! i agree that willie was misinterpreted and his comment is taken on its face value. the problem with us filipinos is we lack the ability to read between the lines and take everything word for word. willie is very close to the aquino family and his intentions surely are not like that. of course filipinos will react to everything, the comments showing the typical filipino stupid and idiotic way of thinking. talangka mentality….everybody is waiting for willie to have a slip-of-the-tongue situation given his previous history with television censorship and strings of network suspensions. as somebody has said in this blog, i commend willie for being frank that the studio should not have aired the coverage side by side with wowowee as a feed. and if there is someone that should be suspended first, it should be the people in the network who decided to air it side by side.
if he is not willie, then people would surely have commended him for being frank and honest, but he is willie. with willie revillame, that is expected to happen even if he had said it in a more civil way.

concerning the petition going on in the internet…. medyo OA na yoon. at saka out of context. first, the issue was not about Cory Aquino. whoever started the brouhaha, thinking that it was disrespectful towards Cory, is stupider than stupid. at lalong stupid yung mga nag-petition na hindi naman talaga nanonood. kung galit kay willie kasi mahilig pagalitan yung staff niya on air, ok lang. yun nga kasi ang problema kay willie. pero yung gawing national issue yan, on an issue na hindi naman talaga issue, katangahan yan.
ang mas lumalabas na malaking tanga, yung nagsimula ng petition na isinali pa yung pangalan ni cory aquino. sampu nang nagsimula, malaking katangahan din yung mga sumunod na hindi naman nanonood ng wowowee.

As far as someone is put to rest where wake is observed, the elders would tell us to pipe down when everyone is laughing, gigling etc. as we mourn someones passing. That is basically the same senario. However the choice of his words is where he lacks. Perhaps he has no professional background in broadcasting or journalistic ethics. Though there are handfull of celebrities (in Philippines that is) that do not have this qualification have a sense of personal ethics of chosing the right words so it will not be misinterpreted by televiewers. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguised that this had to happen. Of all people in higher position in Philippine Politics it had to happen for our most beloved leader of the Philippines – Former President Cory Aquino. It had to happen this way – maybe for people to really see the true character of Willie Revillame. Never mind what he said with respect to Former President Cory Aquino’s cortege. It’s the fact that he rediculed his staff in a live television – not just once, twice, three times…. – it’s the constant and countless embarassment, rediculed and arrogance towards his staff. Trust me, I’ve seen it all. He has rediculed not only his staff but also her guest and even the audience who are for the most part making jokes to the “not so” physically attractive in his eyes. His constant touching especially to female’s bodily parts. This can be considered as harassment in the eyes of the law. But it may not be for him. But that’s where he is mistaken. You can ask anyone and everyone all the gesture that he gives to the female audience and also his female dancers. You don’t need to watch every show. One show is enough to see how pig he is. I can guarantee everyone can agree with me.
As for ousting him from Wowowee – I do believe that he should be remove from the show for reasons that he constantly embarass his own guest (maybe not for him), audience who are not physically inclined and the most important reason that should weigh heavily in consideration for ousting him is the Redicule of his staff in live television. I do believe that he thinks – that wowowee will not prosper without him. Well, he’s wrong – there are a lot of Philippine Celebs who are suited for being the host of the show. Just think of it – when he’s not around or while he’s sick – the show was still full of fun. The show will go on and prosper when he is gone. The show can survive with Marielle, Vallerie, Pokwang and RR. The show is a Team effort. There is no “I” in TEAM. Anyway I’ve said enough. Bottom line is I think ABS-CBN Management has put this issue or turn their heads for far too long. ABS-CBN Management has ignored and we all know that they have noticed his behaviour long before Wowowee show started. Just think of Christie Fermin – she was repremanded for numerous time and the last time she was given a warning – she didn’t listen. Look where she is right now. She is in the outside looking in. They should do the same to Willie Revillame. Willie choose to be in the public eye, he should be careful of what and how he say things. The public is watching.
